The event might not be until November, and whilst most teams mind’s are still reliving the recent Wonthaggi 24 hour challenge and Knox 6 hour race, the entries to the RACV Energy Breakthrough have already opened and filled out.

With a record amount of interested teams, on the first day alone, the website received 265 entries for the event, and the increasingly popular HPV Open category filled out in a mere 19 minutes. For those schools unlikely enough to get their team in initially, they have been placed on the growing ‘waiting list‘.
One school very close to the top of that Waiting List is Bendigo Senior Secondary College, who memorably claimed line honours in the 2012 Secondary 24 hour trial with their vehicle, ‘DIY’. (Read about their 2012 campaign here).
Many teams on the Waiting List have been offered places in the Try-athlon, Pushcart or Energy Efficient Vehicle categories as the organizer’s aim to ensure that as many students and teachers can participate as possible.
Eager teams will have to wait another 5 months until the event begins in November, giving plenty of time to train, design and build their HPVs, but the excitement for the race has begun already.
