It’s unlikely we’ll ever see another horse as great as Black Caviar.
With her racing retirement announced yesterday, the unparalleled champion has managed to draw a whole new crowd to the races. In more ways than one, her success has revitalized horse racing in Australia, and her legacy will live on for many years to come.
As Gerard Whately, ABC commentator and author of ‘Black Caviar’ the biography said, “Only two horses – Phar Lap and Black Caviar – have transcended racing, and then sport itself, to become national idols. Australians have an emotional stake in Black Caviar. She can even evoke despair, relief, joy and pride in her courage.”
And so it becomes so fitting that she retires with a record unbeaten 25 starts, 25 wins. Truely a remarkable achievement, Black Caviar, will now live on as ‘forever perfect’.
